Annual Federal Conference 2007 |
|
Federal Conference is the supreme governing authority of the Australian Education Union. Delegates to Federal Conference include the Federal President, Deputy Federal President and delegates representing the General Division, TAFE Division and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members in each state and territory of Australia. Delegates hold office for two years, after which time they may be re-elected. Federal Conference meets annually to discuss the priorities and policies of the union. It also determines changes to the AEU Federal Rules and appoints professional officers to work in the AEU Federal Office. The AEU’s 2007 Conference “A New Deal for Australia's Future” will be held in Canberra from 16 - 18 January. 85 delegates and 55 observers from across Australia will attend the conference to discuss a range of issues in the lead up to the 2007 Federal Election. Members of the Union, including teachers, education workers and principals from the schools, TAFE and early childhood sectors will consider and debate issues which relate to public education and industrial relations. Fred and AEU Federal President, Pat Byrne, will be available to talk to the media following his address. Doug Cameron, Vice President of the ACTU and National Secretary of the AMWU will also address the conference in relation to the industrial relations campaign and issues more broadly centred on campaigning in the lead up to the Federal election. AEU Federal President Pat Byrne will open the Conference with an address to delegates and observers. This address will set the scene for the decision-making that will occur over the 3 days of Conference, and provide a critique of the Howard Government's policies and the impact of these on public education and the state of democracy in Australia. Keynote addresses and speeches will be posted on this web site as they become available.
