Schools Funding Campaign

Demand a fair share for public schools!

This year is an important year in relation to the Australian Governments’ attitude to public schools. The States Grants Act, which is the legislation under which the Australian Government funds schools has to be renewed in Parliament.

This and the forthcoming Federal Election provide opportunities to focus on the Howard governments’ bias to private schools. Let the Australian Government and your local Parliamentarians know what you think.

Estimates of Future Funding of Non-Government and Government Schools, November 2003 considers two recent papers which came up with widely differing calculations. It finds both contain problems. These are discussed and alternative calculations offered.

This paper by Dr Chris Aulich and Hon Terry Aulich, November 2003 - Proposals for Improved Accountability for Government Funding to Private Schools discusses the types of accountability common overseas, in comparable matters in Australia, and makes recommendations to make private schools more accountable in line with the public money they receive.
