    The AEU has sponsored an independent inquiry into the provision of universal access to high quality preschool education across Australia.

    It was undertaken by Ms Kathy Walker, who is an independent consultant in education.

    The inquiry was Underpinned by a commitment to equity and universal access, and focussed on the role of the states/territories and the Commonwealth in ensuring that all children in Australia have access to a high quality, free public preschool education.

  • Northern Territory forums held - Forums were held in Darwin on 26 November and Alice Springs on 26 November to enable participants to provide input to the National Preschool Education Inquiry. Kathy Walker will provide a brief report in the near future.

  • Union of Australian Women - The UAW's recent Annual General Meeting endorsed the following resolution: 'The UAW congratulates the Australian Education Union for its work in promoting the interests of all children in Australia through its setting up of the Independent Inquiry into the Provision of Universal Access to High Quality Pre-school Education, and agrees to support the Inquiry as it runs its course between October 2003 and May 2004'.
