AEU National Principals Committee condemns the publishing of league tables

The AEU National Principals Committee condemns the publishing of league tables as has occurred with the ranking of Tasmanian Public High Schools on the basis of students' numeracy and literacy achievement tests and attendance in the Mercury newspaper.

The creation of this league table this week highlights our concerns and exposes the failure of the Federal and State Governments to prohibit the misuse of sensitive student test data.

League tables will only contribute to greater inequality, marginalisation and segregation and  not to ongoing improvements in teaching and learning.
