AEU calls for interim Fijian Government to reinstate President of the Fijian Teachers' Association and the Council of Pacific Education

President of the Fijian Teachers' Association and Council of Pacific Education, Mr. Tevita Koroi was dismissed from his position as principal of Nasinu Secondary School this month (May 2009) after making comments, in his capacity as FTA President, at the launch of the Movement for Democracy in Fiji that angered the interim Government of Fiji. Mr. Koroi, who was suspended in December, was officiating as master of ceremonies at the launch. The abolition of Fiji's High Court, Appeals Court, Supreme Court and Public Service Appeals Board means that Mr. Koroi has no avenues available to appeal or challenge his dismissal.

The AEU has joined other Australian and New Zealand affiliates of the Council of Pacific Education in an online campaign calling on the Fijian Government to reinstate Mr. Koroi. Please support Mr. Koroi by following the link to the campaign page, signing, and submitting the electronic letter to the interim Government of Fiji.
