Reports/Background Information
The AEU TAFE Division has determined a range of policies on matters relevant to the sector.
2008 National TAFE Council Annual General Meeting National TAFE Council AGM was in Sydney in January 2008. The Decisions of the 2008 NTC AGM outline the priorities and broad framework of the National TAFE Council in 2008.
Working in TAFE can be a positive and rewarding experience. However, further casualisation of the workforce and changes to conditions require constant vigilance. This section provides information on job security, and a comparison of full-time salaries for TAFE Teachers across the country.
Women are around 70% of the AEU's total membership. The AEU has a long history of focussing on issues of particular concern to women and recognises the need to protect past achievements and to build on them in the interests of gender equity and social justice. At the Federal level, key aspects of the AEU Women's program include the annual Federal Women's Conference, the development of national policies and strategies, and participating in the work of the ACTU Women's Committee and other relevant organisations and activities. Go to the Women's Focus page for current issues. Each of the Branches and Associated Bodies of the AEU have a Women's Officer who co-ordinates the women's program with their state/territory. You can access more information about activities in your state/territory. The National TAFE Women's Committee co-ordinates women's activities in the TAFE Division and provides advice to the National TAFE Council Executive in relation to matters of specific interest to women in TAFE.
The Australian TAFE Teacher is the official journal of the TAFE Division of the AEU. Three times a year, the journal provides information about what's happening round the country and addresses key issues for TAFE and the VET sector. It is provided to every TAFE member in the Branches and Associated Bodies of the AEU. The Winter 2008 edition is out now. Previous/Back issues (since Spring 2003) are also available. The Editor of The Australian TAFE Teacher, is Peter Job.
