Of the women who participated in the What AEU Women Want survey this year, over 90% indicated they were either “very concerned” (51%) or “moderately concerned” (41%) about girls and women with body image difficulties, eating disorders, self esteem concerns or who were self-harming. AEU members place the prevalence of these issues in their own school communities are “extremely prevalent” (27.6%) or “well known” (58.2%). Which, while this shows the issues are widespread, the survey results also indicate that as a result over half the schools/worksites (59.4%) have taken action to address these issues with students.
