World March of Women 2000

The World March of Women 2000 was about women gathered around the world to take part in international actions for and on behalf of women. It aimed to eliminate poverty and violence. Women from over 3500 groups and 146 countries were involved.

The 2000 Federal Conference of the Australian Education Union determined to support the World March of Women 2000 and to work with women activists towards the furthering of World March aims. In addition, the Federal Conference decided that, as a union of educators, the AEU would develop a kit around the World March of Women, which would provide members, students and the wider community with access to information about the March and its objectives.

The kit contains information about the World March, the United Nations, poverty, education, employment, eradicating violence against women and what you can do to support the World March of Women 2000. Each section provides suggested activities and resources which will enable you to explore the issues further.

You can download the kit as a pdf file here:

Participants at the recent AEU Women's Conference 2000 held on 30 September and 1 October, 2000 also endorsed a Statement in Support of the Demands of the World March for Women.

The World March of Women continues and updates are available on the Women's Focus page by clicking here.
