2017 Annual Federal Conference
This year’s AEU Federal Conference ran from February 24-26th and included a range of speakers and workshops covering the broad range of issues affecting educators in public schools, TAFEs and early childhood education.
Delegates heard about huge benefits being delivered by Gonski funding and how the AEU’s successful “I Give a Gonski” campaign will be expanded in the coming months
The Conference also heard from students who benefited from Gonski funding, and the difference it made to their education.
It also discussed the latest developments in the Stop TAFE Cuts campaign, including the attempts to secure a guaranteed 70% of VET funding for TAFE, and the Protect Our Preschools campaign for ongoing federal funding to ensure every four-year-old has access to 15 hours per week of quality preschool.
The Conference was addressed by Anne Swift, President of the UK’s National Union of Teachers; Jack Boyle, President of the Post Primary Teachers Association of New Zealand and James Tweheyo, General Secretary of the Uganda National Teachers Union.
