UNICEF Day for Change 22 October
On this day public schools around the country are participating
in UNICEF's Day for Change which will raise money for vulnerable
children around the world.
Day for Change is held to celebrate Universal Children's
Day.
Day for Change provides an opportunity to raise money to
make a real and lasting difference to some of UNICEF's projects
for children's health and welfare.
This year money raised through Day for Change will support
Girls' Education in Papua New Guinea.
The AEU congratulates all schools participating in this important
event.
TAFE most effective way to deliver skills
The AEU welcomes the Rudd Government's announcement of $187 million
to create 56,000 new training places.
The nation's economic security and prosperity depends on a solid
skills base. The AEU is keen to work with the Government to ensure
that this additional funding is well targeted to genuine areas of
skills shortage.
The national TAFE system provides the necessary infrastructure
and quality of provision to ensure the best targeted and most prudent
use of government money. It is in a position to respond swiftly
and appropriately to the Government's initiative.
Planned provision through guaranteed funding for TAFE remains
the key to addressing the skills shortage.
Want the Best Public Schools For Our Children?
Public schools have a vital role in ensuring every child gets
a high quality education. But they are under-resourced. Teachers
and parents are joining together to convince the Federal Government
to invest more in our public schools.
The Federal Government is in discussions with the state and territory
governments about the development of a new National Education Agreement.
This agreement provides an opportunity for an increase in the general
funding for government schools and the development of new targeted
programs to address disadvantage and issues associated with quality
teaching.
Let's work together to maximise the opportunity this presents
for further funding for government schools.
