World Teachers Day 2019

Today is World Teachers' Day in Australia– an ideal opportunity to remember that trained and qualified teachers are a fundamental part of every child’s right to a comprehensive education.

Celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide, World Teachers' Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society.

World Teachers Day acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. It is a day on which students, parents and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to their community.

World Teachers’ Day 2019 includes a global statement, that “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.”

Today provides an occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, to take stock of achievements, and to address some of the issues central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the profession.
