Henry Kendall High School is a coeducational comprehensive high school with a student enrolment of approximately 790 students including 55 students in the Special Education Centre and 41 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Henry Kendall High School is located near the CBD of Gosford City. We have a proud academic, sporting, cultural and student welfare tradition.

How has your school used its Gonski funding?

Henry Kendall high School has received $170,000 in additional funds in 2016. With this funding we have been able to implement a range of targeted programs that support our students, including;

  • Our Partnerships and Transition Program supporting students development in late primary school and transition into high school.
  • Aboriginal Education programs within the school and across the Gosford City Learning Community.
  • Support to ensure equity of access to educational opportunities for families in financial need.
  • Implementation of our Collaborative Peer Learning program focused on building the capacity and expertise of every teacher.
  • Implementation of targeted teacher development in extending independent learners through the Young Achievers Program.
  • Implementation of the 'Elevate' senior study skills program.
  • Development and implementation of the Senior Preparation Program preparing students for the transition into the senior school.
  • Teacher professional learning and implementation of the Universal Design for Learning program across all stage 4 classes focused on embedded scaffolds providing teaching, learning and assessment adjustments that individualise learning opportunities for each student.
  • Development of two whole school and one faculty specific flexible, collaborative learning spaces focused on incorporation of futures learning principles.
  • Implementation of the STEM program across TAS, Science, and Mathematics faculties.
  • Upgrade and provision of enhanced technologies, including three class sets of laptops, that support teaching, learning and school culture.
  • How has Gonski made a positive difference for students?

    Gonski funding has ensured implementation of a broad range of programs, learning opportunities and access to improved facilities for students that would not have been possible otherwise. These include; significant professional learning programs to develop the capacities of our teachers; incorporation of 21st Century Learning principles across all curriculum areas; enhanced student resilience, well-being and social and emotional literacy at key transition points; access to futures focused, flexible learning spaces that enhance learning experiences and promote opportunities for student ownership of learning directions; and targeted learning programs to ensure individualised learning approaches.

    What could your school do with Gonski funding in the future?

    Full Gonski funding would ensure that Henry Kendall High School is able to continue the directions we have undertaken and build on progress since 2014; expanding individual student support; embed a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy and individualised learning skills; building teacher capacity through quality professional learning, collaborative and reflective practices; ensure that our teaching programs are preparing students with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century; and providing world class facilities and technologies that enhance learning possibilities.
