Nambucca Heads High School, a co-educational school on the north coast of NSW, has an enrolment of about 370 students. More than 80% of students are from low-income backgrounds and 25% are Aboriginal students.

How has your school used its Gonski funding?

Over $350000 of Gonski funding in 2014 and 2015 has enabled Nambucca Heads High School to employ additional staff such as teachers, school administration staff and support teaching support officers to improve the learning outcomes of all students, enhanced technology across the school to engage students in learning, improved learning spaces such as the library, implement Quality Teaching Rounds into our school, provide a breakfast program at the school, increased opportunities for staff to access teacher professional development and provided us with the opportunity to get guest speakers and presenters into the school for our students on a myriad of issues that impact on a teenagers life.

How has Gonski made a positive difference for students?

Principal Simon McKinney said "... as a direct result of Gonski funding Nambucca Heads High School has been able to deliver life changing educational opportunities to each student each day”. "As a school, we have been able to epitomise the ethos of Gonski funding, that being to ensure that every Australian child, no matter what their background, can get a high quality education".

What could your school do with Gonski funding in the future?

Full Gonski funding would allow Nambucca Heads High School to keep building on the progress made since 2014 and to continue to provide a holistic education for the high school students of Nambucca Heads.
