Global Action Week reminds governments together with education partners
from around the world to honour their commitments to make Education
for All (EFA) a reality. This year's Global Action Week is tied to
the '1GOAL - Education for All' campaign, supported by FIFA
and the Soccer World Cup to be held in South Africa from June 11 to
July 11, 2010.
Public school students and teachers from across Australia are
engaged in a variety of activities during this week, including the
world record attempt of 15 million children in over 100 countries
to conduct the world's biggest Lesson for All, learning about how
education can break the cycle of poverty.
The AEU encourages teachers and students to sign up to 1Goal
and participate in events during this week, in the lead up to the
World Cup soccer event and beyond until such time as we achieve
the goal of Education for All.

The AEU has urged members to get involved in the campaign to stop
league tables after newspapers used information from the My School
website to name and shame schools. Within 24 hours of the site going
live, newspapers in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and the Northern Territory
printed league tables ranking schools based on their scores in the
point in time, snapshot national literacy and numeracy test NAPLAN.

The Education Minister Julia Gillard is trying to cover the flaws
in the My School website by misrepresenting the union’s position on
school funding, the Australian Education Union said today.
