  • Spending on Public Schools Below the International Average Media Release - 13 September 2011
    A new report has revealed Australia is spending a smaller percentage of government funding on public schools than almost any other major nation in the world.

  • The 2011 Federal Women's Conference is to be held on Saturday/Sunday, 8/9 October 2011. The theme will be "Another World is Possible, Another World is Necessary: the next 100 years", which is inspired by the EI World Women's Conference.

  • AEU Response to Changes in the National School Chaplaincy Program
    The AEU said today that the changes in the Federal Government's chaplaincy program were a step in the right direction and would better assist schools to enhance the welfare support provided to students. AEU Federal President Angelo Gavrielatos said: "This is an acknowledgement that the National Chaplaincy Program is fundamentally flawed. In addition to undermining  the secular traditions of our public schools it fails to recognise that the needs of students are best served by qualified professionals providing  vulnerable children with expert care and support.   • The Federal government is planning to use the next federal funding agreement for TAFE and VET to make significant changes to TAFE funding.  These so-called "reforms" will damage the public TAFE system, undermining its capacity to provide high quality education and training to students and workers. Contact your local federal politician, and urge them to oppose these reforms, and provide adequate funding for TAFE.
