Success Stories

These stories show how schools have used additional needs-based funding to overcome disadvantage, turn around results and achieve learning success. The Turnbull Government is placing that success at risk by holding back $17 billion in school funding from now until 2027. Public schools are hardest hit, with $3 billion held back over the next two years alone. By holding back funding, Turnbull is holding back our public schools, and holding back our children’s future.

Berserker Street State School

Additional needs-based funding has enabled extra teaching and support staff to work with complex case-managed students, and provided more specialist support in classrooms – leading to greater student engagement.

Le Fevre High School

Additional needs-based funding has meant more one-on-one specialist support, more resources for Aboriginal students, and a literacy intervention program – leading to more students attempting and passing Year 12.

St Johns Park High School

Additional funding has boosted programs for struggling readers, and provided speech therapy for 80 students – improving literacy and academic achievement across the school, raising ATAR scores, and increasing university offers.

Magpie Primary School

Additional needs-based funding has supported quality teaching in the school and boosted literacy and numeracy levels – with the learning achievement of most students lifted above the state average.

Loganlea State High School

Individual learning plans, new specialist positions, and additional professional development have been enabled by additional needs-based funding – improving literacy and numeracy, and lifting senior school outcomes.

Sanctuary Point Public School

Additional needs-based funding has helped to meet challenges around student attendance, engagement, aspiration and resilience – leading to major growth in parent and community engagement with the school.

Paralowie R–12 School

Funding has enabled more support from teacher aides, individual learning plans, extra programs for literacy, numeracy and well-being, and reduced class sizes – leading to gains in NAPLAN, and higher Year 12 completion rates.

Kambrya College

Staff with specialist expertise and new teaching teams tailored to learning needs are among the benefits of additional funding. Literacy and numeracy have improved, with senior secondary results in the top 25 - 30% of state schools.
