AEU WELCOMES GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO TAFE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
The Australian Education Union (AEU) welcomes the joint Albanese and Malinauskas Government’s announcement to invest $28 million to establish a TAFE Centre of Excellence in Early Childhood Education and Care.
The Centre of Excellence, to be based at TAFE SA’s Adelaide metropolitan campus, will be a skills leader in early childhood development.
Through information sharing, industry demonstration and resource development, the Centre will help improve the skills and capability of early childhood education and care workers on a national scale.
The Centre will leverage training partnerships with industry, universities, Jobs and Skills Councils and unions, and facilitate alternative pathways into the sector to strengthen employment pipelines.
Australian Education Union Federal President Correna Haythorpe said of the announcement; “This announcement recognises the importance of TAFE and its ongoing role in ensuring vocational education continues to provide the important skills and knowledge that builds the Early Childhood Education and Care workforce.
“Given the chronic early childhood education and care workforce shortages that Australia is experiencing this announcement is an important step in attraction and retention of high quality personnel for the sector.
“TAFE plays a unique and valuable role in our nation. Investment in TAFE is ultimately an investment in our economy and the future prosperity of our country.”
