COALITION TO RIP $431 MILLION FROM TAFE

1 May 2025

After promising to match Labor’s education funding, the newly released Coalition costings have revealed they will rip $431 million out of Free TAFE if elected.

With two days to go before polls close, and millions having already voted, the Coalition’s costings reveal the devastating impact of a Dutton Government on Free TAFE.

“After saying he wants more money going into education, if elected, Peter Dutton will rip millions from a system that has changed the lives of students studying in areas of skill shortages,” AEU Federal President Correna Haythorpe said.

“With around 600,000 students already enrolled in Free TAFE, and historic investment after years of neglect for the TAFE sector, this will have a devastating effect on our public vocational education system.”

“We need a government that values public education, not one that rips the heart out of it.”

“Free TAFE has been life changing for hundreds of thousands of students, including those who would otherwise not have been able to access vocational education.”

“This is all at risk under a Dutton government. It’s clear that Peter Dutton can’t be trusted on education and that’s the sentiment our members will be taking to the polls on Saturday.”
